on art and the humanities

Amravín de Schur

My body of work is in the visual arts (textiles, painting and sculpture), music and writing. My anthology develops as a woman of color who faced numerous instances of rejection and discrimination that adds to the notion of persecution, first in my country of birth, then in the European Union; and finally in the United States. I found that the languages of the arts allow me to express feelings and experiences that are not possible to be described in the ambiguity of the verbal languages. I am capable of communicating in Spanish, English, German, Italian, French and Dutch, but the arts is the only language that allows me to explain emotions that are not acceptable to be said in verbal language by dint of the existing biases that all cultures represent against the scream of minorities who are not willing to assimilate to the patterns and demands produced by Colonialism in the three continents that I consider home. I am currently working  to produce an art event in Rome, Italy. I am inviting local Italian scholars to a public collaboration in which I intend to strengthen the friendly relations between Italy and King County. I translated a book from Italian to English during the pandemic shutdown. My skills for Central European Languages allow me to reinvent international art relations and to seek better communications among cultures. I compose music. I apply skills in photography and in script writing to produce a short film that is being developed under the supervision of a scholar who likes my projects at Seattle University. Music scores developed during my time in Boston Massachusetts are available for review.  I also like to produce textiles and am hoping to reinvent my images in a weaving loom. I would like to obtain funding to pay for a loom and yarns to start new visual arts projects. I am doing all I can to reinvent my individual identity as a woman of color in my own aesthetic languages. References and further information about my intercultural art programs and activities will be shared at request.
